Ho Chi Minh
Ho Chi Minh was
originally born as Nguyen That Thanh was born on May 19 1890.He was born in
Vietnam but at the time, was a French Colony. He lived a portion of his life in France. In 1920, Minh joined the French
Comnutist Party in 1920 and traveled to Moscow in 1923. He began recruiting
Nationalist movement members that would eventually form the Indochinese
Communist Party. Ho would often travel the country as a reprehensive for the
ICP.
Around 1940 was the time that Nguyen started to go by the name Ho Chi Minh.
Minh went back to Vietnam in 1941 and created the Viet Minh. By wanting China’s
support for this organization, Minh ended up spending 18 months in jail. In 1945
Ho became president of North Vietnam. War ran lose in 1946 because the Viet Minh
declared independence, but the French didn’t allow to give up their colony. This
war lasted for eight years and finally resulted in dividing Vietnam into north
and south Vietnam at the 17th parallel.
Starting in the early 1960s, North Vietnam and the Vietcong began to attack
South Vietnam and the United States supported South Vietnam.
Soon war broke out between these countries. Two things signaled the end of
this war. The fall of Saigon, and the illness causing the death of Ho Chi Minh
in 1969. The Ho Chi Minh Trail, and the Ho Chi Minh Doctrine wewe both named in
his honor.
