Operation Rolling Thunder
Operation Rolling Thunder was a continuous bombing session to campaign and
rebel against North Vietnam. The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution let Johnson take any
actions he needed to take without the permission of Congress. This was what the
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution allowed President Johnson do to get revenge for North
Vietnam attacking our Destroyer Boats. The mission started after the Battle of
Pleiku. Operation Rolling Thunder exibited the United States air control while
fighting against North Vietnam.
The mission was approved on Februrary 24th,
1965. However the first attack was launched on March 2nd, 1965. One hundred U.S. and V.N.A.F. planes bombed the ammo base at Xom Bang. This protest was suppose to last around eight weeks. This
campaign ended in October of 1968.The goals of this objective was to discourage
and weaken Vietnam’s citizens along with the economy, and to wreck the amount of
the government in North Vietnam to control the country. All of these resolutions
failed to succeed.
